Royal Walks by the Vistula – ART Foundation
Royal Walks by the Vistula – a summer cycle of outdoor family activities related to the history of the Castle, Kubicki Arcades and the Royal Gardens: for older and younger lovers of bygone centuries, history treasure hunters and knights of arts and crafts.
We invite you on Saturdays: the 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th of July from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. Every meeting will have a new theme, which means that every Saturday will be different and will boast plenty of diverse attractions.
4th of July – the first family Saturday trip “CANALETTO’s Vistula”
The programme for the day:
11:00 ceremonial opening and marking together the old channel of the Vistula according to the Royal Kubicki Arcades.
visiting the Arcades – from 11:00 to 13:30 every 30 minutes – guided tours will depart from the north wall of the Arcades.
“Bernardo Bellotto and his Warsaw” performance – at 11:30 and at 13:00 – we invite children to listen to the story of life and work of the famous painter, Bernardo Bellotto – known as Canaletto and of his friendship with king Stanislaw August.
art workshops – from 11:00 - on top of the beautiful terrace over the Arcades children and their parents will colour Master Canaletto’s sketch entitled “A view on the Old Town”. Some surprises have been prepared for the most talented pupils of the Master. The participants in workshops will have the chance to listen to familiar and cherished legends of Warsaw, relating to the queen of our rivers – the Vistula.
11th of July – a walk entitled “His Royal Majesty’s Flower Garden”
The programme for the day:
11:00 ceremonial opening with the sound of horns
visiting the Arcades – from 11:00 to 13:30 every 30 minutes – guided tours will depart from the north wall of the Arcades.
Concert by Early Music Group Canor Anticus “Music at His Majesty the King” – at 11:30 and at 13:00 – we invite children to listen to a tale of how and where music was created in the olden days. It will be possible to see old instruments: the family of viola da gamba, lute, hurdy gurdy, a traditional Polish złobcok, and hunter’s horns.
art workshops – from 11:00 – in the Royal Gardens visual artists will lend a hand in making royal sunflowers, which can be later personally planted in the royal meadow. Baroque music will accompany the workshop.
18th of July – HARLEQUINADE – pantomime fun for everyone
The programme for the day:
11:00 ceremonial opening – cutting the ribbon of laughter – we will form a file along the Arcades
visiting the Arcades – from 11:00 to 13:30 every 30 minutes – guided tours will depart from the north wall of the Arcades.
pantomime play “From court jester to clown ” – at 11:30 and at 13:00 king’s mimes will invite children to join in a play of theatre without a word – there will be agility and guessing games: what’s on king’s fools and pranksters mind? Face painting and other attractions.
art workshops – from 11:00 The world of puppets: workshops on how to make a flat marionette, or a do-it-yourself royal theatre.
25th of July a trip “One day in the life of king Stanisław August”
The programme for the day:
11:00 ceremonial opening – collective winding of clock’s hand and His Royal Majesty’s wake up call.
visiting the Arcades – from 11:00 to 13:30 every 30 minutes – guided tours will depart from the north wall of the Arcades.
performance: “In Stanisław August’s honour” – at 11:30 and at 13:00 a rehearsal in verse for a play prepared by His Royal Majesty’s courtiers performed by actors of the Atlantis Theatre.
art workshops – from 11:00 A Sundial – construction and mechanism, or how to make your own sundial.
