Future City Game – British Council

Workshops on urban space development

Future City Game forms an integral part of the project „Creative Cities” led by British Council since 2008 in several European cities. The aim of the game is to generate the best idea on how creative attitude, entrepreneurial skills and innovation can improve the quality of life in cities. The project is also designed to inspire inhabitants to be active in their local communities.

Future City Game is a two-day workshop employing a scheme of a game. About 20-25 representatives of diverse backgrounds take part in the activity. Its goal consists in finding the best idea on solving challenges facing the city. Local stakeholders choose the theme and participants for the game to ensure that it is tailored to the local context. Games Masters and city partners work together with the players gathering data on the city/district and evaluating solutions designed by players. The game teaches teamwork, how to discuss important issues and grants a possibility to develop skills of identifying problems and designing potential solutions.

The main objective of Future City Game is to ensure that the winning ideas will be presented to authorities and, if it is possible, introduced in the process of city’s creative development and carried out once the game has finished.

Warsaw Future City Game will be dedicated to coming up with a solution for challenges concerning the Vistula river in Warsaw. Players will be selected from among the participants of contests organized during Transformations, as well as among active bloggers voicing their opinions on festival website.
